Easy Movie Night inviations to make!

We have the worlds greatest neighbours! We have gates between us all in our fences with paths, arches and gardens around them. We often use our neighbours gates as shortcuts to another street to catch buses or to go to the park - the kids are especially happy with the arrangement as they can ride their bikes in the cul-de-sac that the neighbours live on rather than the main road that we actually live on.

Because we have such wonderful neighbours, we often get together for birthdays, Christmas, Sunday morning breakfasts and for the sheer fun of hanging out together.

This time I have organised a Movie Night in our backyard as we have a big yard... and the movie projector! I like to make a bit of a fuss and so I made some invitations for all our neighbours to put on the fridge to remind them...

Here's what I did...

First I went on the net and searched 'Google Images' until I found a free colour clip art picture of a movie ticket.

Then I imported it to my 'paint' program and deleted out the details that weren't needed by 'selecting' them and then hitting the delete button. I recoloured the now empty bit by selecting the background colour with the 'colour picker' and then 'bucketing' the background colour into the white area.

Then I used the text tool to write in the details of our movie night and when I was happy, I 'copied and pasted' six copies of the new ticket image onto a landscape A4 page in a word type program to make a single page of tickets.

Then I hit print and, voila - one page of simple movie ticket invitations for our movie night!


Score card:
Green-ness: Hmmm...Less green than simply yelling over the fence or emailing to invite them... but more fun!
Frugal-ness: Muchly frugal - time and one A4 sheet of paper cost is all it cost!
Time cost: Probably about an hour of mucking around - but then I enjoy this sort of thing!
Skill level: Basic computer skills in paint and word are all you need!
Fun -ness: Great fun doing something to bring a like minded group of people together!

We live in Queensland. We have cockroaches. Lots of cockroaches! Why the NSW rugby team is called the Cockroaches is a mystery to me - surely ours are not only bigger but more plentiful??? So many Chokos - So few ideas!? What can I do with all my chokos?

I got given a couple of chokos that were sprouting by a friend and so having a garden that grows things these days, I planted it. Its been a while since I had a choko vine... I'm thinking upwards of 15 years or so and I had completely forgotten how many chokos a single vine can produce in so few weeks! And I may have planted more than one! When the first few chokos appeared, I waiting impatiently for them to get big enough to pick. We ate them steamed with butter - de-lish-ious! I got a bit more adventurous with the next handful and had them stuffed (good fun) and make fritters with them (bit boring - needs a good sauce) and then I plumb ran out of ideas. The chokos however, continued to multiply and hung green and accusingly, growing plumper each day. I grated them into nachos, I chopped them into strews and I baked them with the weekly roast but still they grew! What to do when your cat attacks a bird... and doesn't kill it.

We have an eight year old cat who we got as a stray about six years ago. The vet reckoned she was about two when we got her and we did all the right things and got her spayed and vaccinated and all that stuff. She loves people and no matter where you are in the house or garden, she will not be far away. She really good with kids and will put up with the squishiest cuddles and a far bit of toddler tail fascination before bolting out the door to escape. She is well fed (despite the look she is giving me and the empty bowl below...) but not fat - but still the  urge to hunt and subsequently kill still seems to be quite strong. Last weekend, she pounced out of nowhere on a rainbow lorrikeet - thankfully my husband and a band of teenage boys were also there and managed to grab the bird before the cat had done more than pounce.
